So nice to meet you, we're Ben + Mariel.
Husband and wife, and documentary wedding photography team based out of beautiful Vancouver, Canada. We feel extremely lucky to work with amazing couples who are adventurous, value our natural and candid style of photography, and are totally into keeping things real. There's no better feeling than hearing from potential clients who reached out to us because our photographs felt authentic to them - because truth be told, we work really hard to make sure they are.
We are lucky enough to operate Note Photography as our full time business, alongside Ben's exciting career as a freelance Photojournalist.
Ben's photography experience started (officially) when he graduated from Loyalist College’s Photojournalism program in 2009. He has been freelancing in the news photography world ever since, and is one of the few people I've met in this world who is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do "when he grows up". When we're not working together with Note Photography, Ben continues to work with news clients from all over the globe, such as The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, Canadian Geographic, Bloomberg, Reuters News Agency, and National Post. Flip through a newspaper in Western Canada and you'll most likely see Ben's name below a photo (or 2, or 3...or 10)! An extra cool assignment that Ben experienced recently was the role of Official Royal Photographer to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Willam and Kate, on their Western Canadian Tour in the fall of 2016. Yes, he kind of looks like Prince William, and yes - they talked about it (ask Ben what nickname he received on the tour if we go out for coffee)! You can check out his Photojournalism work, and some great shots of the Royals on his personal website and blog.
Mariel has been running the business side of Note Photography (as well as photographing every wedding and couples session alongside Ben) for the past few years, and officially left her office job in early 2017 to operate Note Photography full time. She is the face behind Note Photography’s social media pages and marketing efforts, as well as the person who will be returning your phone calls and e-mails, and ensuring that your experience with us is as seamless and stress-free as possible for you! At weddings, we could not be more grateful to have one another, as two photographers really are better than one. Seriously, we can't imagine doing this without each other! Not only is it helpful for us to be able to be in two places at once, but our unique perspectives compliment each other pretty incredibly - which provides you with a collection of photos that capture all aspects of your day. To us, visual story telling is just as much about the subtle details and "in between" moments as it is about capturing the big events.
Perhaps most importantly, we are two loving, calm and easy going folks. We want to be a source of peacefulness for you on your wedding day, and are passionate about guiding our clients through a comfortable and super fun experience. We love nothing more than than meeting new and wonderful people, and are so grateful for the friendships we've developed through this business. We really feel as though we've hit the jackpot with every single couple we've worked with so far.
When we're not behind our cameras (or computer screens), we love spending time outdoors with our beautiful dog, Mowdy. There are few things we love more than going to the beach with our goofy little dog, and watching her do "zoomies" through the sand and waves.
Still here? Then let's connect! Now that you know pretty much everything about us, it's your turn! Connection with our couples is so, so valuable to us. We don’t just want to hear about your wedding, we want to hear all about you!
