So nice to meet you, we're Ben + Mariel.

We got married on a beautiful summer day in Peachland, British Columbia in 2015, and have been loving each other and working together creatively since 2011. We have two beautiful children together, Ruby and Jude, and a loveable Australian Cattle Dog who has been by our side for 9 years now, named Mowdy. We built this business together in 2017 and feel so incredibly lucky for the experiences it has given us. We've made countless friends in the wonderful couples that we get to photograph, discovered new and beautiful corners of the world, and most importantly, created photographs that we are truly proud of and know will become treasured heirlooms in our clients' lives.

Ben graduated from Loyalist College’s Photojournalism program in 2009. He has been working as a Photojournalist in the news photography world ever since, and is one of the few people I've met in this world who is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do "when he grows up". This man lives and breathes photojournalism and there's rarely a day where he hasn't picked up his camera and filed a few (or few hundred) photos to the newswire. He is constantly striving to produce the absolute best images he can, whether that means capturing breaking news in an engaging and artful light, or capturing our couples authentically and in the most beautiful way possible when we're shooting weddings together! Bens work has been published in print and online all over the globe for media outlets such as CBC, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, Canadian and National Geographic, Bloomberg, Reuters News Agency, National Post and many, many more. An extra cool assignment that Ben has been able to experience throughout his news career was the role of Official Royal Photographer to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Willam and Kate, on their Western Canadian Tour in the fall of 2016. Yes, he kind of looks like Prince William, and yes - they talked about it (ask Ben what nickname Prince William gave him on the royal tour if we meet up)! You can check out his Photojournalism work, on his personal website and instagram.

Mariel has been running Note Photography full time for the past 6 years, and also operates her own commercial photography business, Mariel Nelms Photography. She is the face behind Note Photography’s social media pages and marketing efforts, as well as the person who will be returning your phone calls and e-mails, and ensuring that your experience with us is as seamless and stress-free as possible! Mariel has always had creativity running through her veins, and she uses her unique way of seeing the world to highlight the sights, sounds, tastes and textures of your wedding day, ensuring that the collection of photos you receive from us encompasses every little detail that you've worked so hard on putting together as well as the emotions and big moments of the day.

Perhaps most importantly, we are two loving, calm and easy going folks. We want to be a source of peacefulness for you on your wedding day, and are passionate about guiding our clients through a comfortable and super fun experience. We love nothing more than than meeting new people, and are so grateful for the wonderful friendships we've developed through this business. We really feel as though we've hit the jackpot with every single couple we've worked with so far.
